- So what is the difference
between limited edition prints
I just wanted to talk about that quick subject,
just to sort of talk about that
and what that means for artists.
So limited edition prints are basically how it sounds.
It's limiting the amount of prints that are made.
So it could be one of five or one of 5,000,
or theoretically one of five million.
Basically you're just sort of capping
the number of prints that are able to be made.
Usually, when you're getting a limited edition print,
you'll see in the bottom right corner most times,
it could be bottom left as well,
So it could the be the print is the third of 500,
or it could be the fourth of five prints.
So you're gonna see that number at the bottom
that tells you, okay, what number is it
A lotta collectors really like this idea
because it sort of limits the amount of prints
or copies that are out there,
thus sort of making that one of five really valuable.
there's another 499 prints that are out there.
So limiting the number sometimes
sort of really adds value
to the prints that you actually make.
Where I see this a lot is in photography.
and you're only going to print maybe five of these.
Or it could be sort of individuals in print making,
so you're doing lithographs,
you're doing hand-screened prints,
you're doing woodblock print making.
So basically it's a very intimate,
sort of hands-on process to make a print,
and sort of the print is the art itself.
So it's not like there's an original
when it comes to a lot of these
handmade print-making processes.
It's like the prints are the actual, you know,
the originals, because it's made by hand.
So you'll see a limited quantity
or a limited edition prints out there.
I've done limited edition a couple of times,
but I really like the idea of open edition.
Open edition is basically there is no limit.
That means I can theoretically print an infinite amount.
I can do 100, 200, 1,000, a million, a billion, a zillion.
So it does not matter, it's open edition.
One reason why I really like this
is because a lot of my collectors are a range
so young to old and different income levels
and different places around the world,
so I like to be able to have my artwork be accessible.
When I was a kid and I liked the artwork,
I wanted to sort of have access to it.
So I like to sort of have that open edition,
to where a lotta people can sort of access my work.
And I do a lot of one-offs as well.
But when I do a lot of reproductions,
prints that are really large,
I make sure that I sometimes hand-embellish.
That's just adding original strokes
so that it feels more original,
rather than just, you know, a hit copy and print
and send it off type of thing.
And all my prints are signed.
So like I said, limited edition
is basically capping the number of prints
and open edition is basically there is no limit
to the amount of prints that are out there.
So hopefully that helped out a little bit
for those that wanted to know the difference
between open and limited edition.
Very simple concept, one is limited,
the other is just basically no limit.
